Making a mask for an elf was interesting. I finally hand stitched the one's for my daughter.
How many of us have a dining room table that looks like this from time to time? I know I am guilty, and I have a studio. So why the dining room table. My studio is on the second floor at the far end of the house. Located over the garage it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Spring and fall have been sorely lacking on the Eastern Shore lately. It seems we are in the land of two seasons. I will say the leaves have been beautiful this year, but I digress. The biggest reason for the dining room is it is closer to company. Even if we never converse, my husband is in the next room either talking to friends on the phone or on the computer. It gives a sense of camaraderie to know someone is there. Where do you like to set up work? Send me an email and let me know. It would be fun to share your thoughts and ideas.

I hope you will take a little time to look at the slide show. It shows some of my "headspace" through all of this lock down time. I have not left my home since March 11th. You would think the time would be productive. I have sewn many masks, a few isolation gowns and have started a quilt with the scraps. Unfortunately I also took the time to read more than 30 books. Needless to say not much has been accomplished by the escape was fantastic. You can travel without ever leaving your front door. I have watched with interest for the newsletter and facebook to see what others have created. As many of us start to venture forth, I wish you continued good health and happy sewing.

OPEN THE FILE on the bottom to see what the Modern Bee has been busy doing to keep those machines humming. We ALL are working together for a common good.

I have been making cloth face masks for weeks and find I can no long keep up with requests, particularly with last week's revision of CDC guidelines regarding home made face masks and the impending shortage of PPE.
"Health Care Professionals use of homemade masks:
In settings where face masks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown."
It is for this reason that I have organized an effort of home sewers to produce masks that closely resemble the size and shape of surgical masks. I need the following:
1) Sewers to construct masks according to a standard pattern in Kent, Queen Anne’s, Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot Counties, for first responders, essential employees, or Health Care Personnel.
2) County Coordinators for the following counties, Dorchester and Kent and Talbot. Duties include, providing standard patterns to sewers with helpful sewing tips if needed, Maintaining a list of seamstresses in their county to be called upon when additional masks are needed in any county according to changing and emerging needs.
There will be NO PICK UP, DELIVERY, OR ACTUAL HANDLING of masks by coordinators to prevent the spread of the virus in addition to the likelihood that our county will be under more stringent mobility restrictions very soon.
If any guild members would like to sew masks please call or e mail me for the pattern and information. Additionally if you would like to serve as a County Coordinator for the any remaining county, Dorchester, Kent or Talbot, or know a sewer who can serve please let me know.
Thanks and keep well and safe!

Our 4-H Kids are making bowl cozies for the Talbot County Empty Bowl Fundraiser. We are sewing on Sunday, November 17th from 1pm-5pm and we need two 10” squares of cotton fabric and two 10" squares of 100% cotton batting for each cozy. (Cotton only or it will not be microwave safe!)
If anyone would like to donate or help with this project contact Jo Verne or Lou Diefenderfer. We will take cotton fabric, 100% cotton batting or money to purchase what we need.
Thanks,
Jo, Alice, Sharon, & Lou
